I’m not a writer who photographs. I’m a photographer who writes. I’ve only sold one photograph in my life. Sometime ago, there was an exhibit of my poverty photographs. They were not for sale. A woman network news producer desperately wanted a photo I took in northern India of a woman holding an infant. I titled the photograph “Madonna and Child.” I told the woman I take photographs of the poor to create awareness of poverty, and so I cannot make money by selling the photographs. She said she would make out a check in the name of my ministry for $500.
