Yesterday’s first reading from Paul’s letter to the Colossians contained a line that stopped me cold: “…let the peace of Christ control your hearts.” Things not in harmony with peace often grip my heart. I do not do the things necessary to welcome the peace of Christ into my heart. I often ignore the stillness and silence I need. Our own heartbeat contains the heartbeat of God. Because of our noisy, often agitated, busyness, we do not hear our own heartbeat let alone the heartbeat of God.
