Why am I in Haiti?
I am in Haiti because my life took a cosmic turn after entering the world of St. Francis of Assisi and embarking upon a prolonged and continuing exploration of his radical spirituality. While writing my first book on the life of the saint, I was compelled to follow him which meant I had to enter the bloated belly of poverty in order to understand the saint’s love not only for the poor but for poverty itself, which in the early days of my search seemed to be beyond comprehension.
Today is the feast day of the poor man of Assisi who enriched the world and people of all faiths by his love and understanding of God. St. Francis entered deeply into God’s unfathomable love for all of humanity and creation.
