Yesterday morning, as is my custom in Rome, I went out for two cappuccinos and pastry. When I got back to the friary, one of the older friars from Ireland was opening the gates wide in order to drive out. I said I would close the gates for him. He said thanks, but then realized he was not leaving immediately. Then he mentioned he was going to the cemetery. I guess I looked puzzled by that…and so he asked, “Did you know Brother Solanus?” My answer, “Oh sure…I loved him.” I asked if I could join them on the trip.
