The boys at Santa Chiara are always asking, “Papa Gerry, do you have any machines?” Machines are cars. They always want toy cars. I made a note before leaving Haiti to get some Matchbox toy cars for them. Yesterday, my long “to do” had been whittle down to three items…two of which were easy; but the third was “get cars for the boys.” Not so easy, as the nearest store where I can find small toy cars in this remote part of Florida is 22 miles from the apartment. I convinced myself to make the drive because there was a Starbucks near the store and I hadn’t had a double latte this entire trip. I got as many cars as I could fit in my carry-on luggage.
